Wills

The increasing complexity of modern family life has made Will planning more important than ever. Second marriages are common and estates are often larger than might be expected. Even so, many people do not have adequate Wills.

A well drafted Will enables you to:
  • Choose how your property and possessions will be dealt with in the event of death
  • Provide for your surviving spouse and children and appoint guardians
  • Give particular gifts or sums of money to named people or organisations, including charities
  • Protect your assets against your spouse’s remarriage or assessment to care home fees
  • Maximise Business and Agricultural Reliefs for Inheritance Tax
A poorly drafted Will can make your estate much more complex to deal with, and can result in beneficiaries not receiving the gifts you intended, increased tax liabilities, claims by disappointed beneficiaries and even challenges to the very validity of the Will itself.

Wills should form the cornerstone of Inheritance Tax and wealth planning for all families and individuals. Properly structured Wills and property ownership can result in very significant savings in Inheritance Tax, and can also assist in protecting assets against care home fees.

However, not everyone needs the same type of Will. In order to best advise you on the most appropriate Will for your individual situation we take full details of your estate and personal circumstances, including any particular concerns you may have or situations you wish to provide for. We can prepare anything from the simplest Will to much more complex documents incorporating trusts and tax planning provisions, depending on your requirements.

We are often able to make an appointment to discuss matters on the day that you contact us, and we usually have Wills ready for clients within a week of the initial meeting, although in an emergency this can be reduced to a few hours or less.

We will then store your Will, along with any deeds and other original documents, in our Strongroom free of charge.
