G M Crops - Fertile ground!

It goes without saying that we live in times of great change. These days, barely a week goes by without some significant news which has a direct bearing on how we do business and/or our profitability.

One such issue was brought to our attention recently under the banner headline "Monsanto gives up on G M wheat". Everyone knows that the agri-legal world has been wrestling with the problems surrounding G M crops for some considerable time now. Protesters have tested the adequacy of the legal system in dealing with trespassers and damage to crops whilst those involved with the law relating to product liability have been considering the implications of claims against growers following the introduction of G M crops into the food chain. All in all, potentially fertile ground for lawyers and the experts but absolutely fraught for  acknowledgement by the company that the product is not yet commercially viable. It certainly appears to be the case that the strength of the consumer and environmental lobbies will continue to have a substantial part to play in the development of this area.
