Collette Short, an associate in Family Law at Lincoln firm Langleys, took on the challenging firewalk dressed as a chili pepper to raise funds for the small community of Kianjai in Kenya.
Kianjai, in central Kenya, is an area suffering from significant poverty which has been exacerbated by the recent drought. The Friends of Kianjai charity has been set up to help local people to bridge the famine gap between now and next spring, when the next rains are expected.
Collette said: “I’m hoping that by taking part in challenges such as the firewalk we’ll be able to raise awareness of the plight of the people in this region, and help them to improve their lives. As the event took place on Halloween I thought a chili pepper costume, to emphasis the heat of the task involved, was quite appropriate.”
She added: “This charity is close to my heart and although help is desperately needed now, we also need to think long term. The aim is to help provide ongoing educational support and identify and resource entrepreneurial projects. So I’ll be dressing up and helping to raise money for a long time to come!”
