Helen Rundle, a solicitor in the Claimant Personal Injury Team at Langleys’ Lincoln office, will be waiting
nervously at the start line in Hyde Park, with friend Rachel Gowshall, at midnight on Saturday 14 May 2011 ready to complete a full marathon overnight. Along with thousands of others both will be wearing their decorated bras to fit in with this year’s theme – Walk on the Wild Side.
The event is run by Walk the Walk which is grant making charity raising money and awareness for breast cancer causes. In 14 years the charity has raised over £65 million.
Helen and Rachel are aiming to raise around £750 for Walk the Walk. With over £400 already raised they are well on their way to achieving this and have other fundraising ideas planned. Helen held a cake sale at Langleys on 15 April which was met with great support. On 22 May 2011 a Charity Afternoon Tea Dance will be held at Swineshead Village Hall. Live music will be provided by Rachael Nichols who is waiving her usual fee.
She said: “Training is in full swing and we feel as prepared as we are ever going to feel. Completing a marathon is hard enough, but overnight just makes it an enormous mental challenge and not one you can really prepare for. Whilst most people will be nicely tucked up in bed asleep at 4am on Sunday the 15 May 2011 we will have completed about 16 miles and will have another 10.2 to go! The cause is very much worth the challenge though and I’m hoping that by taking part Rachel and I can make a difference.
“We’ve been taking advantage of the new cycle routes Lincolnshire County Council has recently opened between Horncastle and Woodhall Spa and Lincoln and Boston. They have provided excellent training routes and our training would not have been as smooth without them.”
