ANOTHER PARTNER AT LANGLEYS ACHIEVES NOTARY STATUS

28/01/2010
Peter Horner, Partner at Lincoln-based Langleys, has qualified as a Notary Public - the oldest branch of the legal profession. Notaries have a role quite distinct to that of a solicitor or barrister, and are a separate, independent, legal profession, under the authority of the Archbishop of Canterbury (a role he has had since Henry VIII’s break with Rome in 1533. Prior to that, notaries were appointed by the Pope, but the work is not to do with church matters)

Notaries provide important services to businesses and individuals, dealing with both public and private documents for use in international matters including trade, business and litigation. There are currently around 900 Notaries operating in England and Wales.

Peter Horner, a Partner in the Real Estate Unit at Langleys, comments: “This appointment creates an excellent opportunity to provide a specialist service to both our commercial and private clients. I look forward to developing my role as a Notary within the firm.”

This new role will allow Peter to act for organisations and individuals in a number of ways including:-  witnessing powers of attorney for use overseas; liaising with foreign lawyers and Notaries in connection with purchase or sale of land and property abroad and authenticating private and business documents and transactions.

Peter’s appointment to Notary Public status is the second for the firm. Roger Taylor, Partner based in York, has been a Notary for sixteen years and assists the firm’s commercial and private clients in a variety of matters.
