"Attending this event enables us to keep at the forefront of the major medical issues of today which are relevant to our clients’ concerns regarding their treatment. Senior medical experts covered topics as varied as recognising and treating meningococcal, problems with infertility treatment and the role of histopathology and where an incorrect diagnosis can be made.
“We also took full advantage of the opportunity to network with fellow medical and legal professionals in the medical negligence field. With the recent announcement about the Government’s plan to abolish legal aid the Conference was a good opportunity for all concerned to discuss the impact of this. It is clear that AvMA’s campaign to fight this decision continues as will our own. We shall do all we can to assist AvMA in this fight."
Action against Medical Accidents, (AvMA), is the independent charity which promotes better patient safety and justice for people who have been affected by a medical accident. A 'medical accident' is where avoidable harm has been caused as a result of treatment or failure to treat appropriately. AvMA believes that whatever the cause of a medical accident, the people affected deserve explanations, support, assurance that necessary steps will be taken to prevent similar accidents being repeated and where appropriate, compensation.
AvMA provide free and confidential advice and support to people affected by medical accidents, via their helpline and casework service and they refer matters on to their panel of specialist clinical negligence solicitors or other sources of support where appropriate.
