Brotherton won the national lady amateur’s championship on the flat in 2005 & 2006 before retaining her title in 2009 & 2010. She also galloped past the opposition to be the leading amateur rider on the all-weather for the 2009/10 season. Over the years she has also ridden numerous winners in point to points.
Serena Brotherton said: “Working with Langleys has always been the perfect fit allowing me to combine riding with a law career. I’ve worked in private client law for many years, but working with the equine law team is clearly a natural home for me; I’m passionate about it.”
Serena works part-time at Langleys to accommodate her riding. She said: “I’ve tailored my career to suit my passion.”
Born in 1970, Brotherton’s family has horse-riding in its blood. Her grandmother owned the Grand National winning horse, Free Booter, and her grandfather was Master of Foxhounds for the Holderness Hunt. Her mother, uncle and aunt are also devoted equestrians.
She added: “It was as natural as eating and breathing to enter into the equestrian world. I’ve been riding since the day I could walk.”
On the mornings that she is not in the office Brotherton rides out for Mick Easterby, the renowned Yorkshire based trainer who has trained over 1,000 winners in National Hunt and flat racing in Britain.
Andrew Fearn, Deputy Managing Partner of Langleys, said: “We’re thrilled that Serena is heading up what is fast becoming one of the UK’s leading equine law teams. Her hands-on work in horse racing and passion for all things equine are invaluable assets for Langleys and our clients.”
